Untuk mewujudkan itu, Fakultas Pertanian memegang peranan yang sangat penting dalam bidang pengembangan sumberdaya manusia. Pengembangan ilmu dan teknologi melalui penelitian dan aplikasi teknologi di lapang melalui pengembangan pada masyarakat.

Sektor pertanian memegang peranan yang sangat penting bagi perekonomian negara. Sejarah telah mencatat, pada saat terjadi krisis ekonomi hanya pertanian yang masih dapat tumbuh dan bertahan. Visi Faperta 2030

Fakultas Pertanian IPB merupakan lembaga pendidikan tinggi pertanian dan lembaga inovasi ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi yang unggul dalam memajukan pertanian tropika berkelanjutan dan menjawab tantangan pertanian masa depan, yang berperan aktif dan mempunyai kontribusi yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan daya saing global Indonesia pada bidang pertanian, pengembangan IPTEKS dan sumberdaya manusia.

Misi Faperta 2030

Fakultas Pertanian IPB menyelenggarakan pendidikan, penelitian, dan pengabdian pada masyarakat dalam bidang pertanian secara berkualitas melalui pendekatan inovatif dengan mengembangkan budaya, sikap dan semangat prima (spirit of excellence) kepada dosen, mahasiswa, pegawai dan lembaga (Fakultas, Departemen, Program Studi atau Mayor dan Bagian) dalam rangka menjamin keberlangsungan pembangunan pertanian berkelanjutan bagi kesejahteraan umat manusia.

Tujuan

  1. Mewujudkan sistem dan melaksanakan pendidikan pertanian yang terintegrasi dan yang senantiasa melakukan internalisasi dinamika ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan seni
  2. Menemukan, mengembangkan dan menyebarluaskan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi dalam bidang pertanian melalui pendekatan inter dan multi disiplin yang partisipatif
  3. Membuat inovasi sistem manajemen dan kelembagaan pendidikan tinggi pertanian yang mampu menghasilkan sumberdaya manusia sebagai modal maupun pelaku pembangunan dan sebagai insani yang berkualitas dan berdaya saing global.

Departemen

Soil Science and Land Resources

Managed under the faculty of agriculture, the department is one of the oldest departments established by the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). The vision of the department is to be excellent center in education, research and community services in soil sciences, land resource and their management and technology to assist sustainable agriculture and environment which in turn nourish the national development. Under this vision, the mission of the department is to develop human resources, knowledge and technologies in soil and land. The department comprises 6 divisions. Each division possesses a specific mandate in developing science related to soil and land resources. Lecturers sharing similar interest are grouped into the respective division. A laboratory or studio may be attached to each division. Those divisions are Physical-Land Resources Development, Soil Chemistry and Fertility, Soil and Water Conversation, Soil Biotechnology, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information, and Regional Development Planning.

Agronomy and Horticulture

Population growth, along with the raised awareness of food safety and food security for healthy and quality living has increased the demands for a variety of healthy foods in Indonesia. The continuing increase in fuel prices and the growing awareness of environmental sustainability have led to the development of bio industry technologies and increased demands for bio energy. Free trades and globalization have created new challenges as well as new opportunities for Indonesian agriculture producers and traders as they have to compete with international producers and traders to fulfil the demands of domestic market. At the same time Indonesia is aiming at reaching food self-sufficiency.

Plant Protection

Plant pests and diseases are considered major problems in agriculture production system in Indonesia with annual yield loss may reach 35%. Therefore, efforts to reduce yield loss should be continuously conducted. Strategy to manage pests and diseases based on environmentally-friendly principles should be adopted in order to conserve the global environment. Human resources with proper skill and knowledge in the field of plant protection is required to solve the many problems of plant pests and diseases in agricultural systems. Department of Plant Protection as part of Faculty of Agriculture at Bogor Agricultural University is highly committed to involve in agricultural education by conducting teaching, research, training, and also outreach service activities.  At present, Department of Plant Protection offers two degree programs i.e. undergraduate and postgraduate programs for master and doctoral. Students in plant protection major are trained to have skill and knowledge in plant pests and disease management in order to give and construct recommendation for solving plant pests and diseases problems, conduct and design basic and applied research in the field of plant protection. Plant protection graduates have been working in public institutions and private sectors on key position within the country. The need for plant protection graduates is even greater in the era of globalization, free trade and decentralization.

Landscape Architecture

Landscape Architecture Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural registered as members of various forums and related supporting institutions (IALI), and took part in a national skills certification (BSAL, Landscape Architecture Certification Board) and Landscape Architecture Education Forum (FPALI) both at the level of national and international (IFLA, AFELA) as a form of service to the community and self-actualization. This role as a means of developing the professionalism and expertise of alumni and educators / researchers in the field of landscape architecture. In international forums, faculty of Study Program / Major in Landscape architecture is actively involved as an international organization staff in landscape architecture, i.e. IFLA Section Education. They are also involved in organizations such as the International Federation of Park and Recreation Administration (IFPRA) and the Asian Federation of Educators of Landscape Architecture (AFELA). Other organizations in which the Landscape Architecture Department has an active role South East Asia Networking for Agroforestry Education (SEANAFE) and the Indonesian Network for Agroforestry (INAFE), especially in the field of agroforestry landscape. Competence Department of Landscape Architecture encompasses IPB structuring aspect (planning and design) and landscape management, especially in the tropics, in order to realize the functional and aesthetic landscape to support sustainable development.

Sejarah Kami

Pendirian pendidikan tinggi pertanian di Indonesia mempunyai sejarah yang panjang. Kebutuhan akan tenaga pertanian berpendidikan tinggi telah dirasakan sejak awal abad ke-20. Usulan pendiriannya kepada pemerintah Hindia-Belanda disampaikan sejak tahun 1918 kemudian tahun 1926, 1927, dan 1930. Namun, usulan ini selalu ditolak oleh pemerintah Hindia-Belanda, karena siswa yang ingin meneruskan pendidikan tingginya akan melanjutkan studi ke Wageningen University di Negeri Belanda.

Pendudukan Belanda oleh Jerman pada awal 1940 mengakibatkan putusnya hubungan Hindia-Belanda dengan Negeri Belanda. Keadaan ini memicu dibukanya lembaga pendidikan tinggi pertanian. Pada tahun akademik 1940-1941, kuliah tingkat persiapan pendidikan tinggi dimulai di Sekolah Tinggi Kedokteran di Batavia. Suatu komisi pengkajian dibentuk. Berdasarkan hasil kajian itu, Gubernur Jenderal Hindia Belanda mengukuhkan pendirian Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Pertanian (Faculteit van Landbouwwetenschap) melalui keputusan tanggal 31 Oktober No.16 yang berlaku surut ke tanggal 1 September 1941. Akan tetapi, kuliah tingkat persiapan bersama pendidikan tinggi ilmu pertanian telah dimulai tanggal 1 September 1940.

Selama pendudukan Jepang, kegiatan perkuliahan terhenti dan dibuka kembali pada tahun 1946. Pada tahun 1948, rancangan gedung fakultas ilmu pengetahuan pertanian diperlombakan. Pada tanggal 27 April 1952 dilakukan peletakan batu pertama gedung fakultas pertanian IPB oleh Presiden Republik Indonesia Ir. Soekarno. Pada peristiwa itu, Bung Karno menyampaikan pidatonya “Hidup Mati Bangsa Indonesia”.Isi pidato tersebut masih sangat relevan dengan keadaan pertanian pada saat ini, khususnya pangan dan juga dengan pendidikan pertanian itu sendiri. Melalui sejarah yang panjang ini, Fakultas Pertanian IPB telah menjadi perguruan tinggi pertanian berbasis pertanian tropika yang terus mencari dan memberi yang terbaik untuk negeri tercinta ini, Indonesia.

“Rakjat Indonesia akan mengalami tjelaka, bentjana, malapetaka dalam waktu jang dekat kalau soal makanan rakjat tidak segera dipetjahkan. Soal persediaan makanan rakjat bagi kita adalah soal hidup atau mati……..”

  1. 1940: Lembaga Pendidikan Tinggi Pertanian (LPTP)  – Landbouwwetenschap
  2. 1950 LPTP berubah: Fakultas Pertanian, UI  (fakultas tertua)
  3. 1963: Faperta dan FKH memisahkan diri dari UI menjadi IPB

Experimental Field

(Sindang Barang, Jonggol, Sukamantri, Cikabayan)
Faculty of Agriculture of IPB utilize some experimental field/garden for
practical activities and specific research. The experimental field are:

  1. Experiment Garden Cikabayan. In this experimental garden IPB students can conduct lab work and research. Currently there are several zones plant collections as a result of research and lab work, such as the collection of durian, palm oil, coffee, aloe vera and breadfruit.
  2. Sarongge garden (Teaching Farm Units) under the management of the
    University Farm. Activity in it is the cultivation of vegetables, packing house and agro-tourism package.
  3. AGROPROMO under the management of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture. Agropromo located next to the Campus IPB Baranangsiang and serves as a place of fruit cultivars, ornamental plants and production facilities. Agropromo is also used by students for Horticulture experiment and Entrepreneurship practice.

Insect Museum

Insect Museum is a unit of the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture IPB developing, managing and collecting a variety of insect specimens for educational and research purposes. On Monday, March 14, 2016, Insect Museum was inaugurated with the name of Prof. Insect Museum Soemartono Sosromarsono, in appreciation of his service in the teaching and development of entomology in Indonesia.

Agroedutourism Program

In Agroedutourism providing learning facilities on the farm or laboratories.
There are lots of objects that can be visited in Agroedutourism, including:

Teaching Farm

Teaching Farm of Faculty of Agriculture aims to facilitate and provide information on the cultivation of horticultural crops to the academic community of IPB.

Plants are available in the teaching farm amounted around more than 30 varieties. Activities performed in teaching farm are harvesting vegetables and learn horticultural cultivation.

In teaching farm, it will be provided a plot / special place for guests who have a hobby or interest to learn the cultivation of horticultural crops. Besides the cultivation of horticultural crops in the field, some seeds horticulture are also provided in this teaching farm.

Integrated Plant Clinic

This clinic facilitates the improvement of academic quality, especially the learning process through synergism of research, education and community service. This clinic is a mobile laboratory that will provide integrated service on crop problems, soil, pests and diseases and landscape architecture consulting in the centers of agricultural production and local partners as well as the promotion and dissemination to a wide range of excellent high school.

Faculty of Agriculture has collaborations with international institutions in place, including with Japan, USA, Europe, Korea, and ASEAN countries. The collaboration includes academic and student exchange, joint research, joint symposium and conference, and joint authorship for international publication.
