Faculty of Agriculture-IPB University Hosts Visiting Professor from The University of Tokyo: Strengthening Collaboration in Plant Molecular Biology

IPB University encourages incoming staff mobility from renowned universities across the globe as part of the internationalization strategy of the university. Through the Visiting Professor scheme organized by the Directorate of Global Connectivity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daisuke Tsugama spent a fruitful week in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture from 26 May to 1 June 2024.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daisuke Tsugama was involved in various activities during his visit.   He delivered a guest lecture entitled “Next Generation Sequencing: Data Analysis and Interpretation” as part of the PBT1636 course, hosted by Dr. Sintho Wahyuning Ardie, on May 27th, 2024. Assoc. Prof. Tsugama and Dr. Sintho are jointly supervising a Master’s student from the Plant Breeding and Biotechnology study program, thus the commission meeting and colloquium of this student were performed also during the visit. Assoc. Prof. Tsugama agreed to be a reviewer following a collaborative meeting with the editors of the Indonesian Journal of Agronomy and Journal of Tropical Crop Sciences.  Potential PhD positions for young faculty members as well as prospective graduates were discussed on several occasions. Assoc. Prof. Tsugama was amazed by the management of the university farm, one of which is Sukamantri Experimental Station, particularly at how the farm develops excellent partnerships with the surrounding farmers.

As for exchange, Assoc. Prof. Tsugama is welcoming four delegates from IPB University to participate in the upcoming SAKURA Exchange Program hosted by the ARC-BRES, The University of Tokyo, this October 2024. IPB University and The University of Tokyo have a long history of collaboration.  An Implementation of Arrangement (IoA) was signed by Assoc. Prof. Tsugama and Dr. Sintho, witnessed by the Dean of Agriculture Faculty, on Friday (May 31st, 2024). This IoA shall open for more activities in the future between the two universities.
